Description
REDComm project will build a mobile infrastructure able to handle emergency communications, without the need of standard telecom networks. Our architecture is based on: a command center for coordinating the emergency responders, and several mobile units that will communicate with the command center. The mobile units will form a backbone wireless mesh network able to cover a large area providing an independent network for ubiquitous heterogeneous services (i.e. WiFi, GSM). In this respect, the citizen will be able to dial emergency numbers (i.e. 112) and communicate with the command center to seek or provide help. Moreover, the command center will be equipped with a variety of radio equipment employed by the police / fire departments and other emergency response teams. In that way, we will provide the needed infrastructure for emergency communication in crises.
